I believe that "craftsmanship" reflects an attitude as much as it does an ability. My work is guided by the awareness that a piece of handmade furniture is much more than a functional item. Often it will be a special and significant centerpiece in the home. Perhaps it will become a family heirloom, acquiring a history of its own through generations. It will hold its own unique story. With an appreciation of the client’s personal investment in a project, I see the collaborative nature of the design process as one of understanding and translating the client's ideas and requirements into the finished design. That appreciation is reflected in the attention to every detail of a project.
Over many years of woodworking, I have developed an understanding of wood's unique properties as a building material, as well as a deep appreciation of the artistic potential in a raw piece of lumber. In selecting material for any project I believe that the environmental impact that that choice reflects is an important consideration, and make every effort to choose wood from “sustainable” sources- from responsibly managed forests, from reclamation, or from locally available materials. For every commission, I support this commitment by making a monetary donation to support reforestation efforts worldwide.
